Keep your place when a refresh fails

If a page you are already reading cannot refresh, it stays on screen with a retry option instead of turning into an error.

Published

A brief connection problem should not lose what you were reading. If a page you already have open cannot refresh, you keep your place and can try again when you are ready.

This can happen when you switch tabs and come back, when the page checks for new information on its own, or right after you take an action. In those cases you will still see the content, with an option to retry.

What to expect:

You keep what you loaded

Only a page that never loaded at all shows a full error screen. If you could already see the page, it stays on screen.

You can retry

Use the retry option to load the latest version. You do not need to go back or open the page again.

Lists stay clear

In the change feed, if more results cannot be loaded, you will see a clear message where the next items would have been, instead of the list quietly stopping.

Shortened answers stay labeled

If a long answer was stopped partway because of its length limit, its notice stays with it when you reload or reopen the conversation, in chat and in every planning step of a request. Older conversations saved before this improvement simply show no notice.

If you see an error and are unsure what to do next, see Understand error messages.
