Format messages and comments
Write readable comments, requests, and chat messages with formatting, mentions, and clickable links.
You can write messages that are easy to read and act on. Add formatting, mention a teammate, and include links in comments, requests, and chat, and featury shows them clearly and consistently.
Formatting helps others scan your words quickly. Use it in a request description or in a reply to break up a long thought, highlight what matters, and keep the conversation readable.
Mentions bring the right person in. When you mention a teammate in a request comment, they are part of the discussion and can follow up from there. Learn more in Mention a teammate in a request comment and Discuss requests with comments.
Links stay clickable wherever they appear. Paste a link in a message or comment and you can open it directly. References to work, such as commit links in chat and comments, also open directly. See Open commits from chat and comments.
What to expect with spacing in chat:
- What you type is what others see. If you press Enter once for a new line, that line break is kept.
- Your spacing stays intact inside normal messages, so short lists and separate thoughts do not run together.
- Blocks of preformatted text are left unchanged.
Tips for readable messages
- Keep paragraphs short, with one idea per paragraph.
- Mention the person who needs to answer or decide.
- Paste the link people need next, rather than describing where to find it.
